Cargo Aircraft from Kenya Lands in Sanaa Amid Speculation Over Mission

A large cargo aircraft arriving from Kenya landed at Sanaa International Airport on Tuesday morning, sparking significant speculation regarding its cargo and mission following recent military strikes against Houthi-controlled positions in the capital.

Flight tracking data identified the aircraft as a Boeing 727-2Q9, bearing registration number 5Y-GMA. The plane arrived at the airport at 9:35 a.m. on September 22, 2026. Observers noted that the aircraft’s transponder signal appeared to be obscured and its flight path altered during the journey, fueling concerns regarding the transparency of the operation.

The arrival follows a series of regional tensions, including a military operation on September 18 that reportedly targeted a Houthi command and control center in Sanaa, resulting in casualties among both Houthi and Iranian leadership. This landing is not an isolated incident, as the aircraft has been recorded making similar trips to the Houthi-controlled facility previously.

Just two days prior, on September 20, a plane operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), designated RED360, arrived at the same airport. That mission involved the delivery of 22 tons of medical supplies to assist those wounded in recent conflicts. While the ICRC flight departed with injured personnel, there is currently no independent evidence to suggest an operational link between the humanitarian mission and the cargo aircraft originating from Kenya.
